List of required documents
A valid international driving license is required
Frequent Questions and Answers
- A minimum age of 18 is required for the driver. Drivers under the age of 23 are subject to an additional young driver fee for minibuses and large SUVs.
- Before the start of the rental, all drivers must have held their licenses for at least a year.
- Throughout the duration specified in the rental agreement, the driver must possess a valid driver's license.
- For small cars, there is an additional young driver fee that must be paid by drivers under the age of 20.
- At the start of the rental, each driver must show a valid passport and a driver's license that is appropriate for the car group being rented. The scanned copies of both IDs may be retained for up to two years. Copies cannot be used.
- We accept all driving licenses from the EU, the USA, and Canada. If your driving license is in the roman alphabet, has your photo, a current date, and is from a nation outside of those areas, we will accept it. You will need an international driving license if your license does not meet those requirements.
The same card must be used to guarantee the rental agreement when you pick up the vehicle. We accept two types of cards:
We will accept a credit card as a guarantee. Our front desk staff is not permitted to accept a credit card if it is not clearly designated as such.
If you purchase our Platinum Insurance plan for the duration of your rental time, we can acccept a debit or prepaid card.
Just keep in mind that the rental agreement must be signed in person at pick-up by the cardholder/renter, as well as by any other drivers. Additionally, the card must still be valid 100 days after the rental time has ended.
The rental car companies in Panama can only guarantee a certain type of car, not an exact make or model. Car rental companies have cars from many different brands in the same category. These cars should have the same features that were confirmed at the time of the reservation. Here is an explanation of the various car classes:
You may be able to reserve a specific model in some cases. You will notice a special note next to the vehicle in the search results if such a possibility exists.
Choose a car based on what you want to do on your trip. Small cars like the Ford Fiesta or Fiat Panda can be used to get around the city and its surroundings.
The Skoda Superb is the most popular car in the Standard category. Its starting price is 21$ per day from EAST COAST, and its rating average is 9 based on more than 1000 customer reviews. Toyota Rav-4 from EUROPCAR is the most reasonably priced rental vehicle in Panama. Just 26$ per day is the cost.
Most of the rental cars in Panama are manual. Automatic cars cost more to rent, and if your license only lets you drive an automatic car, you won't be able to rent a stick shift car.
Traveling by car lets you explore at your own pace. It's nice to be able to avoid congested bus or rail schedules and travel early or late.
General insurance categories in Panama:
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - It limits the customer's liability throughout the rental time and sets the maximum damage payment.
- Theft Protection (TP): Reduces your obligation to the vehicle's deductible/excess if your car is stolen (proof required are a police report and the car keys).
- Third Party Liability (TPL) covers material and intangible losses to other people's vehicles, property, and medical expenditures.
Purchase insurance while booking your car:
The lowest daily rates ranging from 27$. You might wish to select a smaller vehicle because big cars tend to cost more to operate due to their higher fuel consumption.
Summertime in Panama is always a time of increased demand for car rentals, which raises costs. Prices are markedly reduced in the off-season, particularly in the winter. The length of your rental also influences the overall cost.

Top Places to Visit in Panama by Rental Car
Whether you are visiting Panama on vacation or for business, renting a car is the easiest and most convenient way to see the country. Here are some of the top places you can visit in Panama by rental car.
Bocas del Toro
Located in the Caribbean Sea, Bocas del Toro is a popular tourist destination in Panama. The area offers a mix of tropical rainforests and pristine beaches. The area is also known for its water sports. Several species of marine turtles are also found in the region.
The best time to visit Bocas del Toro is during low season. This is from mid-December through April. These months are perfect for snorkeling and exploring jungle trails. The driest months are October and January.
Bocas del Toro is also known for its bioluminescent plankton. This natural process produces light as a defense mechanism against predators. You can see this light show during the New Moon. There are also many surf spots in the area. Surfers can expect to find octopus, lobsters, and more.
Gatun Locks
Whether you're planning a family vacation or a solo trip, you can explore Panama by rental car. The country is full of interesting towns and attractions, including the Panama Canal. There are also many national parks. You may want to visit one of the parks during your trip, as the area has a range of life forms and archaeological sites.
The Panama Canal is a 77km stretch of water that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. There are three locks on the Atlantic side, and two on the Pacific side. The locks are a fascinating engineering feat, and a must-see attraction in Panama. You can visit the locks by train or by car, and the locks themselves have a museum.
A fun way to see the Panama Canal is to take a ride on a train that is operated by the Panama Canal Railway Company. The ride is luxurious and offers plenty of information.
Iguana Island
Located in the Los Santos province in Panama, Iguana Island is a beautiful tropical island. The island is a national wildlife refuge, which protects tropical fish and marine birds. It has a small ranger station. It is also home to hundreds of iguanas and many frigate birds.
The island was a popular tourist destination for several years. In 2005, the island was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The island is surrounded by crystal clear waters and white sand. The island is a great place to snorkel and scuba dive.
To get to Isla Iguana, you can rent a boat. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes. Once you arrive on the island, you can swim, snorkel, and enjoy a delicious meal.
The island is a great place to visit on a day trip. You can choose to stay at a resort or in a small cabin on the island. These cabins are simple but make you feel isolated from the world. The cabins are made of white cane and have a sand floor. They also provide towels and bed linen for an additional fee.
Fort San Lorenzo
Located at the mouth of the Chagres River, the San Lorenzo fortress was built in the mid-eighth century to protect the main route to the Americas. The fort is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Fort San Lorenzo was the height of military sophistication at the time. It was designed by Italian engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli, who also built Panama's other major fort, Agua Clara. The fort was meant to protect the last part of the Camino de Cruces trail. However, its strategic location wasn't enough to discourage pirates from attacking it. It fell to Henry Morgan's pirates in December 1670.
Located within the San Lorenzo Protected Area, the fortress is an important link in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. It is home to twelve different ecosystems, including four types of forest, mangroves, and wetlands. Several Indian tribes also live within the area, making it a unique place for visitors to explore.
Santa Catalina
Located in the Veraguas region, Santa Catalina is a small beachside town. It's a popular surf destination, as well as a great spot for snorkeling and fishing.
The road from Panama City to Santa Catalina takes about 5-7 hours. It's a good idea to rent a car as this is the easiest way to get around.
The town of Santa Catalina is small and spread out. To get around, you can either hire a bike, stick to one side of town, or take a taxi. A taxi will cost about $40 for an hour.
There are not many hotels or restaurants in town. You can find a few tour operators, but they don't have much to offer.
There is one store in town, which sells fresh produce off of trucks. It also sells canned goods and toiletries. It's a good idea to bring sunscreen.
