Things to Do in Trento, Italy
If you're heading to Italy, then you'll probably want to visit the city of Trento. In fact, the town is one of the most popular destinations in the country, due to its historic architecture and beautiful natural landscapes. The city is known for its medieval Buonconsiglio Castle, which features fresco cycles from the late Middle Ages. It also has a baroque cathedral, a rose window, and a Renaissance building with a frescoed facade.
Castello del Buonconsiglio
Located in northern Italy, the Castello del Buonconsiglio is a fortified urban complex with defensive functions. Built in the 13th century, the Castello di Buonconsiglio is one of the most monumental and important monuments in Trentino-Alto Adige. The castle has been renovated and transformed into a museum that exhibits paintings, sculptures, and archaeological finds. The building was once the seat of the Bishopric of Trent from the 13th to 18th century.
The Castello di Buonconsiglio has a large Italian garden that is well-maintained. The building is known for its numerous frescoes and paintings. Several sections of the building date back to different eras, such as the Torre della Fame and the Castelvecchio.
The Torre d'Augusto is the main tower in the early castle. This tower is also referred to as the Hunger Tower, as legend claims that prisoners died here. The courtyard of the early castle has a charming loggia in Venetian style.
Gorge of Ponte Alto
If you are interested in exploring nature, then you'll definitely want to visit the Gorge of Ponte Alto in Trento, Italy. The gorge is located in the north of the country, and it is a secluded place that has a deep canyon with two waterfalls. This site is not difficult to reach. There are busses that go to the gorge, but it is best to take a guided tour.
This gorge has been a tourist attraction for nearly a century. However, it was closed for safety reasons from the 1980s until 2015. Since then, the area has been restored. You can now enjoy the view of the waterfall and the narrow spiral staircase in the gorge.
The area can be reached from Trento by bus. A bus station is located near the train station. The extra-urban bus line will take you to the gorge in less than thirty minutes. There are also parking facilities for visitors.
Museo Diocesano

The Museo Diocesano in Trento has a special place in the hearts of art lovers and tourists. This is because it is the site of one of the most important Renaissance frescoes. These frescoes are a bit difficult to access, but they are definitely worth the effort. The museum has a small but informative exhibition on display, and has re-installed its galleries.
The museum also boasts the largest display of illuminated codices in the world. These codices were commissioned by King Matthias Corvinus, who was a keen patron of the arts and a lover of books.
