Wilhelma Zoo

The Wilhelma Zoo is a zoo located in Stuttgart, Germany. It is the oldest zoo in Germany and one of the oldest zoos in the world. The zoo was founded in 1844 by King Wilhelm I of Wurttemberg, who named it after his wife Charlotte (Wilhelmina).

The garden opened on July 1, 1846 with an area of about 24 hectares (59 acres) as "Kgl.-Wurttembergischen botanischen Garten" (Royal Botanical Garden). In 1906 it was renamed "Kgl.-Wurttembergischer Zoologischer Garten" (Royal Zoological Garden). Today's area amounts to more than 60 hectares (150 acres), with large parts being protected from development by local laws since 1932; however its extension has been limited due to urban expansion over many years.

Koenigsbau

The Koenigsbau (King's Building) is a palace in Stuttgart, Germany. It was built in 1760-1764 by Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg and designed by Nicolas de Pigage. The building was the residence of the royal family until 1819 when they moved to Schloss Rosenstein Castle after its completion.
