Its name means "the end of the world" and it's easy to see why: its population is only 1 million people, making it one of the smallest capitals in Africa. You can start yoyr travel around Burkina Faso by renting a car in Ouagadougou.

The official language is French but many locals speak their own languages as well (such as Dioula). The currency is CFA francs and there are two seasons: dry season from November to May and rainy season from June to October.

Banfora

Banfora is the capital of the province of the same name in central Burkina Faso. It's also a city of about 100,000 people, an important market town and center for trade with neighboring countries. The city is known for its large market on Sundays where you can buy local goods like cotton fabric or baskets woven out of straw.

The main attractions include two museums: the Museum of Art and Culture (MUSAC), which displays traditional artifacts from all over Africa; and the Ethnographic Museum (EMEAC). Another interesting place to visit is Togu Naaba's palace--the former residence of kings who ruled this area before French colonization began in 1896--which now houses cultural activities such as puppet shows and dance performances on weekends during school holidays (December through February).

Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-Dioulasso is a city in Burkina Faso, in the south of the country. It is the second largest city in the country and an important centre for trade and industry. The name Bobo comes from "Bobo" (or "Bo" or "Bwaba"), one of several different ethnic groups living there. The term "Dioulasso" means "place where one finds water".

Dédougou

Dédougou is the capital of the Sourou region and one of Burkina Faso's most important cities. It's located in the Sahel, an arid region between Africa's northern savannahs and its southern rainforests.

It is the capital of Koudougou Department, and home to the National Museum of Koudougou. Koudougou was founded by Mossi King Naba Traore in 1750, who made it his capital city before moving to Ouagadougou in 1890. The town grew up around a French fort built there in 1894 during colonial times as part of efforts to suppress local resistance against French rule. Today, Ouahigouya retains much of its colonial architecture and serves as an important market center for farming products such as millet, sorghum, peanuts and cotton grown in nearby villages
